    GO!!! Why are you still reading? This is without a doubt the best restaurant in the area. I was there with a group of 8 last night and man oh man what a fantastic meal. I could not stop smiling the entire dinner it was so good. I tried a little of everyone else's food and each thing was better than the next. Go here and enjoy what is sure to be one of the best meals you've ever had. Seriously, go now, go often you won't be disappointed.

    This place was a dream come true! We had a large party of 21 and needed to feed 13 hungry kids in a hurry! When we called ahead they said they could seat us now and the tables were all set up when we walked in the door 15 minutes later. Because we only had a hour to get in and out we ordered quickly. The food came out almost instantaneously...and it was delicious! The homemade pasta was incredible as were the clams, the ravioli, the chicken parm, and the ceasar salad. The staff was very organized and worked hard to get us in and out and still enjoy our meal. The owner made sure we were all taken care of and helped expedite our crazy meal. The best part was the checks came out at the end of the meal...not only were they correct, they were cheaper than we all expected! We will definitely go again if we are back in the area. Enjoy!

    Probably the most hospitable place I have ever been. I had looked up online and had wonderful reviews but i didn't think about making reservations and they were so accommodating. The place was very busy and rightfully so , food and service was wonderful. Everything homemade and I will definitely go back.

    The Good.......BYOB, fast friendly service and large portions (I guess large portions are good)........the Not So Good.......everything but the dessert was Very Salty and the veal was over cooked.........the Funny.........I have been to many many BYOBs and I have never seen so many folks bring beer.......must be a Delco thing.......One and Done here......

    We have gone here several times and are always impressed with the food and service. The sauce is always so rich and flavorful, and the pasta is homemade. I've also done a lunch party here for my work and they are hands down the best restaurant in the area to work with, very accommodating.

    Food, Atmosphere and Service. Had Fathers Day dinner here and everyone loved it! We had my baby nephew with us due to some last minute changes - not exactly an appropriate place for a baby but they accommodated us like nothing was out of place.

    I had my first experience with Il Granaio this past Sunday. I chose it to host my friends bridal shower based on fellow Yelp reviews as well as a few friends I'd spoken to that had eaten there in the past. I have to first say, that Greg (the owner) was just the absolute best. I am in the event industry, and I must have emailed/called/stopped in, about 100 times total planning our little (30 ppl) bridal shower. He put up with my craziness like a true gentleman and professional! On the day of the shower, we got in about 45 minutes early to decorate and put out our alcohol. Greg and his team had the room all set for us, with a table for presents, a table for favors, and a table for our booze. The staff put all of our alcohol on ice and in bins for us while us bridesmaids put up our décor. While we were working, Greg came around and asked us if he could pour us a glass of wine, or get us anything else. Obviously, we said yes to the wine and he came around and served us all while we worked. Once the party started, he continued to be extremely attentive and polite, letting me know the timeline for things and, despite it being a BYO, continuing to make sure the bride and the bridesmaids had a full glass of wine/cold beer at all times! Now for the food. We got our choice of either Salmon, Chicken Parm, or Penne in a creamy vodka sauce (they were the 3 things we picked as choices prior to our event). I split the chicken parm and the penne with the bride, and both were just phenomenal. It was one of those "I'm so full...why am I still eating..." type of meals! Even my friend, who never eats marinara from restaurants as she's from an Italian family who's very particular about their "gravy", was raving about the chicken parm. Our meals were precluded by a fantastic mixed green salad (I mean, there was arugula in it. How could it be bad!?), and served with family style grilled vegetables and seasoned potato wedges. Both sides were also stellar. Overall, I can not recommend this place enough. I found myself looking for another reason to hold a group event there. There is plenty of parking, the food is top notch, and the service from top to bottom was outstanding. I will recommend Il Granaio to anybody looking for a great BYO or a place to hold a private event! And Greg, if you're reading this, THANK YOU!!! :)

    This is about our fifth time dining here. Mussels in red sauce has great flavor. It was busy as always so thankfully we called ahead to make a reservation. My boyfriend had the pan seared shrimp and salmon tricolor pasta dish with a lemon Rosemary cream sauce. He really enjoyed the shrimp that was cooked perfectly. The sauce was not too creamy, which is how we like it. Our server, Amanda, was very nice. We had complimentary limoncello shot after our meal, which was a nice surprise. We will be back, as always!

    Finally, we've found a great Italian restaurant close to home! We were there for lunch the past Sat with a 2.5 year old. First, the ambience is cozy, elegant. Second, BYOB! Third, fairly kid-friendly, that is, as kid-friendly a fine dining place can be. Last but certainly not the least, GOOD food!! We had the agnolotti porcini and another eggplant pasta dish with ricotta whose name I can't recall. Both were very good but the porcini dish was better. The only place where the restaurant felt slightly short in my opinion is dessert. We shared the chocolate mousse cake and it didn't meet my high expectations. It just felt like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. All in all, we will be returning soon!

    I was very surprised how good this restaurant is!!! So, I need to premise that I'm a food-spoiled super-picky Italian (born and raised) and I moved to Philadelphia about a year ago. The best Italian food is cooked in my home but, of course, sometimes it's good to have a nice lunch/dinner out without having to cook or clean the dishes. I tried a lot of "Italian" famous and fancy places in Philly such as "L'Osteria", "Positano Coast" etc... and I've always been highly disappointed for how ridiculously expensive those places are for food and wine that is not even that great (actually some of l' osteria over-priced dishes were completely inedible!)...both places definitely overpriced and overrated! Today at lunch we ended up trying "Il Granaio" after a very nice visit at the Brandywine River Museum. As we sat down, they brought us lots of good bread and humus in olive oil...delicious! We ordered a couple appetizers an entree (Agnolotti ai Porcini) and an amazing freshly made creme brulee , everything was delicious, nice portions fair prices. Also we didn't know it was a BYOB restaurant but the super-nice waiter brought us a left over bottle and filled up our glasses! Awesome dude! I couldn't believe I found a place where i really liked everything they served! So I ordered an espresso...almost every restaurant messes up with espressos, well, this one doesn't! As it wasn't enough, the waiter offered us two rounds of homemade limoncello shots! The check was $50 for two people and we were completely full and satisfied, while in any other overrated place that we tried, we would have spent 50 bucks only for the two glasses of wine and the 4 limoncello shots! I highly suggest this place, this is what an Italian looks for!

    Poor management. Wish I could give this place 0 stars after the experience I just delt with here. I will start off by saying I have eaten here several times before and it was a decent dining experience. However after my most recent trip to il granaio I will not be returning. I had planned a nice evening for my fiancee and myself and had tickets for an event at 7:30. We made a reservation at il granaio for 6:00. (We would soon learn that reservations mean nothing at this garbage establishment) So we walk in give the guy our name and he tells us we will have to wait a few minutes while our table was prepared. That's fine this is a common thing even though we had a reservation. So 10 to 15 minutes go by as larger reservation tables walk in and are sat immediately. So then the guy working the host stand casually walks up to us and informs us a larger table has come in earlier in the night with additional guests and that because of this we would have to wait an addtional 45mins. So I understand his reasoning that it's a better financial decision to not piss off a 20 top for bringing in extra people and royally screw over a two top. Although I understand his reasoning, I do not agree with it one bit. So when I expressed I was displeased with this, he became incredibly rude. I was mad he did not offer any compensation, but I was even more mad that he didn't even say he was sorry. He knew when he sat those people earlier that he would screw over someone. And by the look on his face, he could care less. So then we were left to find a table somewhere at 6:30 which didn't happen. So thanks greasy il granaio Manager for the wonderful date night!

    Entrees were just ok, the best part of the meal was the chocolate mousse cake dessert. I like that it's a BYOB. Prices were reasonable. They were a little quick to clear the dishes, there was one thing we were going to pack that was whisked away. All in all, an ok experience, but I expected more after seeing the other reviews.

    I came here with my fiance and his mother, and we had a wonderful meal! We luckily made reservations for our Thursday evening meal because the place was packed! We all loved our dishes--my fiance's mother and I both had a scallop and parpadelle dish, and my fiance had a veal and pasta dish. All were wonderful. The pasta is all homeade and you can really tell. I also love that it is a BYOB! One criticism is that it is a little loud, but that makes sense for a big family-friendly restaurant.

    After 13 years of living just 2 miles away, I FINALLY ate here, and it was great. The food was so fresh, the oil/bean dip was fabulous, the vegetable and pasta were homemade. I have found a little treasure which will not break the bank.

    I'm from out of town from the DC area. I've had some average to great Italian food. After eating here, I missed the Italian offerings in the DC area. Here is my breakdown: Service: Average. People were courteous and were not rude. Nothing really stood out about it though. Food: All of our foods were way too salty. I thought French food was salty but this took the prize. I actually thought I was in France again. Menu: Seemed ok. I found they didn't have the variety i usually like. Not sure why that was. It might have been the lighting, but I couldn't read the menu well. Seemed like it was double typed. Atmotsphere: Not too bad. It looks better on the inside than the outside. Although if you are sitting next to a LOUD table the acoustics make it so you can't here your own table.

    my wife and I had dinner here and it was terriffic. Veal cutlet parm cooked perfectly and the pasta was great. Wife had shrimp scampi also cooked to perfection. Wait staff very professional and friendly. Plenty of parking.

    The best meal I have had in a very long time. I had the grilled octopus. Outstanding. Wife had the mussels. Outstanding. She had salmon for entree. Which I was surprised she would order with everything else on the menu. It was the best salmon I have ever had. My entree was the whole fish. Cleaned at the table. Branzino. It was to die for. The only negative was the whole fish was listed under the ala carte. I didn't really notice that till that's all I got on the dish. Shouldn't the waiter have made sure I realized it was under the ala carte. And why would a whole fish "entree " for $24 be ala carte? I can't wait to go back. Just be careful where on the menu you order from.

    I absolutely love hidden gem's, such as this place! Found IL Granalo on Yelp on a Friday night, in search of something outside of WIlmington. The restaurant is adorable outside and inside. LOVED the ambiance. Very cozy! Our meal was perfect from start to finish, not only due to the excellent food, but also our very helpful server. I highly recommend the grilled octopus as an appetizer. I am NOT a huge fan of octopus, but trying this changed my perspective on it. DELICIOUS! Also, coming from a dessert person, the home made tiramisu is also a MUST. Oh, to make this place even better, it is BYOB! Can't get any better than that :)

    Dear Michael P, I find it amusing that you feel the need to come to a site where people are asked to give their honest reviews and describe their experiences, but yet you feel the need to talk down to someone that you don't even know because it is "her first and only Yelp review..." Everyone started somewhere, didn't they? For your information, we happened to be the friends who raved about the restaurant and joined Michele J. and her husband. We have only had good experiences here, which is why we were so disappointed. To make a long story short, no one was complaining about a 15 minute wait. The problem was that we waited over 2 hours in total with no food at all, while people who came in after us were being served appetizers and entrees. Our reservation was at 7pm and we finally left about 9:15pm. We gave them a 2+ hour benefit of the doubt, but surely someone of your stature at the epicurean society can understand what we were upset about. You can hardly review a meal if you never receive one. I think it's lovely that you had such a great experience, but keep in mind that it is YOUR experience and you are entitled to openly discuss it in a forum such as Yelp. If you are unsure about how Yelp works, I suggest you contact a site admin.

    Great go to neighborhood Gem. Ordered the Rigatoni with Eggplant and it was awesome. My wife had (I forget the name) but it was a lobster over linguine with asparagus. Lots of flavor! Haven't had a bad meal there yet. Had a service issue before, but that can be anywhere. Owners and Managers are there and are walking around making sure everything is ok.

    Really nice atmosphere; definitely make sure you have a reservation for a peak night. The food overall was great for the price and location. The portions are a good size but not overwhelming. The homemade pasta was the highlight of the night. Some of the other pastas do not appear to be homemade, which was a little bit disappointing from an italian place. The gorgonzola gnocchi was not "gorgonzola-y" enough for my taste; it tasted like gnocchi in a cream sauce. We took it home and added some gorgonzola for lunch the next day, and it was just right. Two of my party got a one of the specials, which was shellfish over pasta with a red sauce. The sauce had a nice flavor and the portion size was just right. The mussels were cooked perfectly but the shrimp were a bit overcooked.

    had lunch this past Saturday, loved everything, highly recommend the braised veal ragout. the agnolotti porcini pasta was a little tough, but still delicious Chocolate mousse cake was the best I ever had. Bonus was the warm bread with olive oil and a dollop of what I assumed was a white bean hummus. Service was warm, professional, but not overbearing. As for atmosphere, my husband was impressed the moment we walked through the door. You could just tell it was going to be great.

    I was introduced to il lGranaio by one of our ten women who meet once a month for lunch. It was a delightful experience from start to finish. Served first was a dish of seasoned extra virgin olive oil over a small amount of cannelloni bean humus and a basket of fresly baked break. Although all the menu selections looked delicious, our very nice waitress explained the specials. One was a "new" item, a salad consisting of fresh greens, roasted peppers topped with tender lightly breaded and fried calamari and baby squid with a vinaigrette dressing. This salad was excellent. It was such a generous portion that I took some home for the next day. I put the salad green aside, heated the calamari in the toaster oven. It was almost as good the second day. I specifically did this so I could have my husband try it. He right away went to the website to see their menu. He is a good Italian cook and I am looking forward to going back with him as i know he will be as delighted as i was. The other guests were very pleased with their selections from the menu also. A tiramasu and sllce of cheesecake with a birthday candle for me was the icing on the cake. Can't wait to go back. We were urged to make reservations for dinner.

    We came to this restaurant on a whim. Not living in the area we looked for something Italian. We did not have a reservation and were accommodated within 5 minutes. The service was outstanding and staff super friendly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced! The complimentary limoncello was a delightful finish to a great experience. Definitely returning customers! :-)

    We came here for a friends' birthday dinner and honestly when we pulled up all I could think was "how on earth did they pick this place!" I had never heard of it and don't live in the immediate area so it was a total delightful surprise for me. My boyfriend and I split the mussels in white sauce as an appetizer, they were delicious- our table was provided with plenty of bread to soak up the broth, and best of all, they were all edible, not like most places where you get a few unopened ones or empty shells. For dinner we split a seafood entree (the name escapes me) with tricolor shells, cauliflower, shrimp, and baby scallops... Which was also phenomenal. We were with a large group (15 or so) and were well accommodated for, and I felt the server and staff paid very good attention to our needs. I'm also always a fan of Italian places that are BYOB!

    We took a group of six to IL Granaio last night and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere of this new BYOB in Glen Mills was fun and upbeat. Our table started with the Grilled Baby Octopus, Calamari and some salads. Having never eaten grilled octopus before, I was surprised at how good it was. It was served with this wonderful citrus lemon chili dressing over tender greens. Give it a try! One person at our table ordered the fresh fish which was filleted at our table. It was a great experience. I ordered one of the specials - Red Snapper cooked in parchment. That was also very good. We will go back again.

    Probably the best Italian food I've had in the area. Will definitely be back...hopefully soon! I have family in the area and it was literally a hop skip and jump to get to the location. Slow down when you think you're near or you might pass the turn. We went for a family birthday during lunch hours. They were very accommodating to our BYOB cake and champagne which we had them open, cut, etc., as well as a child under the age of 4 with a tree-nut allergy. Service was friendly but not annoying and overly-so. We weren't there to be wooed anyway, but the food did that for us. They give you olive oil with the bread) and there is some sort of bean dip in the middle of the olive oil. Sounds weird but to. Die. For. Small plates were tempting but went with a main dish of shrimp with zucchini and salt and pepper pasta. Fantastic. Just really great. Salads and sandwiches at our table looked (and everyone said they were) great as well. Can't wait to return.

    Hands down, one of THE best BYOB experiences in the area I've enjoyed (and I get around!). A packed Sunday night, but the place knows how to keep it moving. Reservations definitely in order for this creative culinary taste sensation. Highly recommend any salad, mussels in red wine, veal, octopus, and on premises desserts! Loved the understated atmosphere as well!

    I went here a month or two ago for a friends birthday, with eleven others. A table for 12 at 8 pm (we had a choice for an earlier time but thought later would be better on a Saturday night) and we arrive at 8 pm sharp. Our table was ready and while the front room was all hustle and bustle, we had a more secluded seating towards the back of the restaurant. Immediately upon seating, our waters were filled and warm crusty bread was given with a white bean tapenade of some sort (delicious!!) I was impressed with how swift yet pleasant the service was! Our server was Cari, who immediately came over and began opening our wine (my kind of service) and told us about the evenings additions to the menu. She was so incredibly nice and had extensive knowledge of the menu; she answered all of our questions and gave personal recommendations. We decided to start with a bunch of appetizers and we made a great decision! Everything was so delicious and tasty. The calamari was perfectly breaded, grilled polenta was something I've never tried and I was impressed, and a few other delicious starters, no complaints. The Caesar dressing was absolutely perfect! We tried the grilled octopus as a recommendation from Cari, and it was the best octopus I have ever had! Wow! Even my (picky) SO tried a piece and liked it. Double Wow! For our entrees, I had the nights special scallops positano. Incredible! The scallops were seared to perfection and I couldn't get enough bread to get every drop of juice after I devoured my meal. My SO got the whole fish, which was expertly filleted by our server Cari, tableside. We split an order of the broccoli rabe and were glad we did! I'm not sure what everyone else got, I know someone had the pappardelle veal which was seemly slow cooked to absolute perfection (I only got to try a little bit) and everyone Loved Loved LOVED the food and not many leftovers made the trip home. After dinner was finished we had some coffee and espressos, my wife ordered a cappuccino and she drank every drop! Cari brought us some dessert samplers with all of their homemade desserts with a candle and Wow, all I can at is save room for dessert ! The mousse cake is to die for!! We had an incredible time out at Il Granaio and it's not often we get everyone together. Glad to know we have a new spot to get together for incredible dinner, friends, and good wine (BYOB to boot) !!! We have told all of our friends and I would highly recommend asking for Cari to take care of you and your loved ones; she made our night out fun and enjoyable and she was such a nice young woman!!     There's no better recommendation than word of mouth. Just about everyone I talk too would love to recommend a great Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, this isn't it. Ordered the Sausage & Broccoli Rabe (house specialty) & usually a sign they know what they're doing in an Italian kitchen. The rabe was over blanched & totally lost its flavor. It needed salt. The sausage was not homemade (nor did it say this on the menu) but tasted store bought. Calamari was good but the marinara sauce was commercial, jar marinara. Chicken Involtini was dry. Nothing worse than dried out chicken. Although the lemon sauce was good. The atmosphere was , meh, alright. Some guy (looked a little like Artie Bucco) was walking around table-to-table greeting people, delivering bowls of mussels and chatting people up dressed in painters pants and an old t-shirt. He looked like he was going to paint his living room. I guess the tux was at the cleaners. Also, he never stopped by our table - rule one of the hospitality biz - treat EVERYONE the same. Such a disappointment. But, the Maris Grove crowd likes it, dressed in their finest sweat suits.

    Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!!! So glad I finally got to try this place! A little expensive for me , so it will be a "special occasion" spot... All the food we ordered was wonderful, from the Caprese Salad to the Gnocchi with a creamy Gorgonzola sauce to the hummus and olive oil mixture that they served with bread at the beginning of the meal. Also loved the grilled Italian Sausage with Crispy Polenta and Sauteed Broccoli Rabe and White Beans. The Arancini was also very good - first time I've ever tried those. We also had a real Italian waiter with an accent so heavy we could barely understand him. All in all, everything about our trip to Il Granaio was wonderful and we can't wait to go again!

    I have been here more than a few times. My honest feedback is that if you enjoy tasty food, you should visit Il Granaio. If you are on the healthy side (low oil, low salt, low calories) you should avoid this place. I had Polenta, salmon, sea bass, shrimp dishes and some vegetarian options such as spinach, mushrooms on the side from multiple visits to this place. These dishes can be made in a healthy way with less oil (even if it is olive oil), less salt, and less cooked and they would still taste good or even better. If they pay attention to provide a healthy meal, this restaurant will see lot more customers who would love to come back, since their service and BYOB options are already above par! If not, both the restaurant and the customers will be taking a chance ... survival of the fittest!

    The food and service at this BYO are both excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. We devoured several appetizers before settling into the shrimp special, that was superb. People in the Philly area are blessed to have so many BYOs, and this is one of the best. Can't wait to go back.

    A hidden gem (literally hidden - I almost passed it the first time!). Every part of my meal was delightful. The octopus appetizer is a must. Their polenta is also wonderful - crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. The two entrees I've tried, the agnolotti porcini and the pesce del granaio, were both SO GOOD. The portions are generous and the sauces forced me to resist the urge to lick my plate. Very well executed. Not healthy by any means - a little on the salty, fatty side, but why not indulge once in awhile? An added bonus is that it's BYOB - our waited arrived to the table promptly, corked our wine, and returned with bread and an olive oil & white bean dip. Service is above average for the area.     My wife and I stopped in to Il Granaio on a Saturday evening. We were looking for something different and had heard good things. It became apparent immediately upon entering the restaurant that we should have made reservations. Almost every table was occupied, and diners were steadily streaming through the door. However, after only a moment of waiting, we were shown to a table. The manager took a few moments to greet us and tell us about the restaurant, and the dishes he felt were Il Granaio's trademarks. He recommended the octopus appetizer, which we ordered. It was fantastic. My wife opted for a veal dish, while I took the waiter's recommendation and ordered the agnolotti porcini. I rolled the dice, despite the fact that I typically don't enjoy mushrooms, and this dish was loaded with them. My gamble paid off. It was one of the best entrees I've had in a long time. The sauce was amazing, but not too heavy. The portion was just right. It didn't matter how full I was getting, that dish was gonna get finished. My wife also raved about her meal. Afterward, we had two desserts, both made in-house, and were impressed by both. A complimentary shot of limoncello finished off a fantastic meal. I don't give out a lot of five-star reviews, but from start to finish, this dining experience was one of the best we've had in a long time. It was obvious that the manager and his staff took pride in their establishment. Add the fact that Il Granaio is a BYOB, and Glen Mills has a real winner. We'll definitely be back.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: We called about 20minutes ahead for reservations on a Saturday night. Even though it was crowded the manager got us to a table 5minutes after being there. I enjoyed how he watched the floor to make sure everything was done properly (bread refilled - water refilled) and to see if everyone enjoyed their meals. I've got bruschetta (10/10) and I ordered the chicken Parmesan. Would have been nice to have a little more pasta with the HUGE chicken cut but overall a great restaurant.

    My parents and husband met here on a Friday night in December 2012. They start you off with bread and oil with a dollop of hummus. Very tasty. The appetizers came out in a timely fashion and were delish. We ordered the polenta. For the main entree we had the linguini and clams: a touch salty, but overall tasty. This is my go-to dish when eating Italian. We also had Two fish specials which were baked in a parchment paper topped with huge lumps of crab meat. So good, they both vanished. I forget what my step-father ordered :( I liked that the bus boys were on top of clearing our empty plates and unused glasses. Desserts: creme brulee and chocolate cake. Both excellent (and I am a baker!) I would definitely go back to this restaurant (and am planning to next week!). There is not much decor on the walls, but I could care less about that, as long as the food is great, I'm a fan. Pros: small business, close to home, excellent food, BYOB, reasonably priced, good service Cons: it does get very loud

    We live very close and visit often for lunch. The experience is always outstanding! If I was to offer any criticism it would be to widen the lunch menu. The service is always excellent! They have the best Caesar salad anywhere we've gone! We highly recommend this place!

    I know how it feels to be turned away. I tried to make a reservation last Friday in the afternoon for Friday evening and was unapologetically told that they were booked. Short and not so sweet. However, we love this place and so now I just made a reservation for tomorrow, Friday evening and I was rewarded with a yes! We both work in Center City and dine there frequently. Capital Grille, Del Frisco's, etc. We love the food at Il Granaio and the byob aspect. Their food is top notch. We usually order an appetizer to share and an entre each. No extra sides or salads are needed because the portions are ample. Our first visit we made the mistake of ordering soup and salad each plus entre. The soup was wonderful but in a large bowl. By the time the entre came we were so full we had to take them home. Love their veal saltimbocca. So glad to have this wonderful restaurant nearby.

    Went here the other night with a recommendation from a family member. The food was delicious. I got the veal and crab. Made perfectly and the veal was very tender (the way it should be). The desserts were all delicious as well. They also give you a complimentary lemon cello shot with dessert. Service was spot on. They were really busy but I never had to ask for anything. That's how a great restaurant should be. It's nice to finally have a great Italian restaurant in the suburbs. Highly recommend!

    Let me be up-front: I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I know people who have eaten here and liked it, but I don't know if I got the wrong dish or came on an off night, but the entree I received was severely subpar, especially considering the price. To begin, the hostess was pleasant enough and the service as a whole was pretty average. Nothing outstanding, but it wasn't horrible. I got the mussels as my appetizer, which was good enough. It was actually cooked pretty well, not tough at all, and considering that it is seafood and tasted pretty good, the price was about right ($8 for a sizable helping of mussels in a pretty tasty liquor). If this is all I got, I would give this place a 3.5, but then came the entree. For the entree, I got the linguine with a dozen littleneck clams. This dish can be summed up perfectly in two phrases: extremely salty and overly "spiced". I understand that clams are a seafood, but my god. The salt was over the top and was only unmatched to the amount of "spices" added to the dish. And I put "spices" in quotes because I suspect that it is a spice mix, perhaps premade or even from a store bought container, because it looks and tastes similar to the spice mixture in the olive oil which comes with the bread for dipping. The difference is that the dip has another element (I'm not sure, it was a creamy texture and good enough), whereas the linguine was simply drenched in this over-powering mixture of spices and salt. My girlfriend got the chicken and asparagus dish, which she said was mediocre and overpriced as well. After everything was said and done (mussel appetizer, clam linguine, chicken with asparagus, a side of broccoli which was apparently an extra 5 dollars and was simply steamed) the bill came to about $56 dollars including 20% tip. This to me is simply outrageous. For the quality of the food and the quantity, as the portions were relatively small, especially the chicken dish, this was a complete rip off. I never plan on eating here again. Normally, my GF isn't particularly picky either, I am far more picky with my food, but even she agreed that the food was not worth the money. After hearing good things about this place, I am severely disappointed because I love supporting local businesses, but really I could get a far better meal with a larger portion at a place like PF Chang's or Olive Garden (and yes, I realize that some of their dishes are either over salted or feel generic/artificial, but the food is much cheaper and I have lower expectations for a chain restaurant). Overall, I would strongly suggest skipping this restaurant. Try somewhere else if you want to support local restaurants. All you will end up with is an empty wallet and a feeling of disappointment at Il Granaio.

    Heard nothing but great things about the place. My wife and I were surprised how crowded it was at 5:30 on a Sunday night. Service was generally good though one of our party didn't get his coffee after dinner. The waiter did offer to bring it after we pointed it out but we were ready to leave. He did apologize. The food was very good, thouh my sea bass was pretty plain. Fish off the bone only. Good, but it could have benefited from some type of sauce. My real gripe was that for a byob it came out to be somewhat pricey. I'll go back but would order something different.

    I went here last week for my mother's birthday with some of her friends. While her friends may really like it, I feel like it goes down hill every time I eat here. This time I ordered a veal & crab dish. It was very salty and I couldn't even taste the crab. But, I think the worst thing of all was our waitress! My mother ordered steak and has food allergies, so requested no sauce. On the menu it stated that it would be served with mushrooms & onions (or some sort of vegetable). When she received her steak, that is all she got. When my mother questioned the meal, the waitress told her that the mushrooms, etc were in the sauce - so no sauce = no veggies. BUT, she told my mom she could order a side vegetable. There was a waiter who was going to go get some veggies for my mother, but the waitress stopped him. I think since it wasn't clarified in the menu, they should've offered vegetables for free. I almost asked to speak with her manager because she was very rude. I don't think we will be coming back here anytime soon.

    My wife has been to IL Granio many times and has always come back with great things to say. I finally tried it tonight and while there were some great aspects to the meal (Service, dessert, home made Lemon cello) the overall score was impacted due to am very plain seafood risotto. I found this entree to be very lackluster in taste and appearance. I think if I would have followed my instinct and chosen the veal, a few more stars might have been justified.

    I was surprised to hear that Il Granaio was only open 3 weeks because 3 different people had recommended it to me. That is remarkable for such a short period of time. We had a wonderful meal. Lively, yet itimate atmosphere in a renovated Grain Mill (hence Il Granaio). Seems like a partnership between Chef and the Front manager. Both are extremely connected to the experience and visited the table several times during the evening to make sure everything was going just right. Our waitress was the hosts wife, so the service had that uptick you get when the family is involved. This is the type of place where you could just let them present their choices and never pick up the menu. There were 5 of us and we just let them take over. They served us family style and started with the aforementioned Octopus, which is an absolute must have. Rice balls and lightly fried Calamari were delicious. Then they brought us each 2 pastas, a spicy marinara with homeade spaghetti and gnocchis with sausage and boccolli, also homemade and both outstanding. We finished with a wonderful white fish which the host filleted at the table, sausage with broccolli rabe and poleta, and finally a sirloin, sliced into portions and bathed in onions and mushrooms..... are you hungry yet? We definately weren't at the end. Finally, a fresh homeade cannoli filled with a sweet, light cream and drizzled with chocolate. In my glance at the menu, only a couple of dishes approched or were 20 bucks. Most were in the teens. Appetizers were 8-10 bucks. I've been to a couple of restarants that rival this quality of Italian in Philly, but haven't seen one in the suburbs this good. Bring a great bottle of wine, and save yourself the hassle and parking issues in the city. This is a country "big city" type eatery. Enjoy.

    AMAZING!! Best meal either of us have had in a long time. I had the special, shrimp and crab in a cherry tomato sauce - delicious. My husband had the gnocchi in a pomodoro sauce and couldn't stop raving. Service was excellent, food was outstanding and we will definitely be back.

    What an amazing place! My family and I love, love, love to go out for dinner AND we are, transplanted, South Philly Italians. This restaurant will measure up with not only any of the 4 & 5 star Italian restaurants in Philly (or the region) but with my grandmothers cooking as well! We've been there twice and the the food has been excellent both times. You say how can you tell by only 2 visits? Because the first time I went it was with a party of six, the second time with a party of eight and we shared our appetizers and entree's. The Fried Polenta and Grilled Octopus were the big hit appetizers and the Agnolotti Porcini won my heart for entree but everything ordered was delicious. Somebody in an earlier review mentioned that it can get a little noisy as the room fills up, and I agree, but we just talk louder....we're Italian, that's what we do! Finally, the service is excellent, everyone is personable and the prices are very fair. You won't be disappointed.

    We've been there twice with friends and were very impressed both times. So far, we've had the Caesar salad and the house salad - both delicious - seafood risotto and various fresh fish options - all wonderful! Last night, I had the veal ragout on pappardelle - OMG!! Truly amazing. Normally, I wouldn't even order a dish like that in the summer, but I'm so glad I did! Outrageously good. I also ordered the small plate and brought half home - it was an extremely generous portion.

    This was a great visit for a business dinner that I went on last month! I loved the intimate and authentic feel of the restaurant, which is tucked away in a woodsy area that you'd have to look for to find. The bread was soft and delicious, which is always a good sign at an Italian restaurant (any restaurant, really) and I ended up getting the veal ragout which was a hearty meal that, as a bonus, ended up reheating well for leftovers. Service was friendly, entertaining, and made this a great experience!

    For my 100th review, I'll go with a place in DelCo (where I now currently live). This place was amazing! From the service to the food, I was totally impressed. At first, from the look of the outside, I didn't think we would be getting such fancy service, but stepping inside was a completely different outlook. I felt from the start that I was under-dressed, but not once did anyone ever look at me like I was a bum. LOL. They treated me and my family very well. We started off with grilled Octopus for our appetizer - oh my! It was delicious. I didn't even want to share it. The flavors were perfect and the octopus was nice and tender. As for my meal, I ordered the Fettucine Aragosta. It was made with fresh homemade pasta with lobster and asparagus in a light cream sauce. I thought it was delicious, but my wife's pasta was better (She always orders the better dishes for some reason...) I don't know they name of her dish, but it was one of their specials for the night. It was made with their homemade pasta, crab meat and shrimp, in this delicious sauce. Everything just blended so well together. Dessert was creme brulee. My wife and son killed it! I'm not a big fan of pudding like food, so I didn't eat much of it. Overall: I can't wait to be back. I will definitely want to take my friends and family here.

    We really like this place, and I wanted to give it 5 stars. We absolutely will return, just a few minor nits that I can't give the 5th star over. The biggest thing that I didn't like was in today's spinach fettucine special -- the monkfish was overcooked and rubbery. Which is kinda interesting because the crayfish were properly cooked, and I'd think it's much easier to overcook tiny shellfish than larger fish filets. Still, this dish was good; I'm planning to enjoy the rest for lunch tomorrow. I also don't like the red pepper aioli drizzled on the calamari, but could've ordered that appetizer with the mayo held or on the side, so that's on me. Likewise, I don't care for the bean dip in the oil, but it's easy enough to dip bread in just oil without bean, so no big deal. Otherwise, the meal was really good. We have been treated very well every time we've come here. Everyone enjoyed their food. The restaurant can get a little loud, might be an issue for those with hearing problems, but there are far worse atmospheres. It's a little expensive, but portions are big and they bring a round of limoncello shots with the bill. Again: we're returning.

    I've been lucky enough to eat here twice for free through work, so I'm not sure how their prices are. BYO and easily the best bronzino and chicken caprese sandwich around this area. The calimari and antipasti Appetizers are also very good. Watch out for the bread and dip (hummus?) because you'll fill yourself up on them before you know it.

    Another fantastic find thanks to Yelp! We stopped for lunch while out in Concordville. This restaurant isn't on the main road, so I would've never known it was there without yelp. We live about 25 mins away and really only stay on US1 when we're out that way, but it's really only a couple of minutes off of 1, so it's not that far off the beaten path. We started off with the Calamari. Let me say this- I'm positive that this makes my top 3 calamari ever, I'm quite close to saying that it's my top calamari- it honestly beats out Capital Grille, and theirs is fantastic. They battered and fried the banana peppers and, get this, lemon slices! and fry it with the calamari. Oh. My. Gosh. I have never had fried lemon slices before. But I have to say that layering a piece of lemon, a calamari ring and a banana pepper was pretty much heaven. The hubs, myself and our two girls polished that plate off with no problem at all. It was SO good. They brought out warm bread and an olive oil/bean purée dip for the table. It was good, but could've used a little more seasoning. We ordered the fish (Basa Fresca) the veal scaloppine, the gnocchi Gorgonzola and an Italian panini for the table. The gnocchi was light and delicious for the table. There is no way, however, that we could eat that as a main dish, as it would just be too heavy with the Gorgonzola cream sauce. But, using it as an accompaniment for the other dishes, it was perfect. It was also a great sauce to sop up into their yummy bread. The hubs had the veal and loved it, as did the rest of us who kept asking for more of it, and the fish was light, tender and flavorful. The only 'eh, was the Italian sandwich which was very heavy in roasted red peppers, But still good. We, unfortunately, tend to over order and I think she filled up on everyone's dishes and didn't need the whole sandwich anyway. Overall, a delicious lunch, and we will most definitely return! I'm already tasting the calamari again!

    From the moment we walked in (without a reservation), the hostess and other staff were extremely polite, professional and helpful. We had to wait for a bit for our table, so they gave us glasses to enjoy some wine in the lobby. As soon as we were sat, our water glasses were filled, bread with amazing dip came, and then our server came and gave us the night's specials. I hate feeling rushed, which some BYOs do, but this place gave us perfectly timed service. We ordered the grilled polenta, which was amazingly flavorful -- perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. The waitress recommended it with the Cesar salad, and she was right on. We had the greens and beans, which were lightly cooked and tasted fresh against the extremely flavorful and rich lobster and seafood pasta we had. This place really is a gem. Even if you're not in the area, I would recommend taking a trip to visit this amazing restaurant.

    Could not have had a better experience. The aroma while still in the ample parking lot was enough to get the saliva flowing. Warm and inviting entryway as you are in full view of the open, bustling kitchen. Entire team craves for you to enjoy your visit. I had the pasta fagioli soup special which outstanding. Caesar salads were served in a parmesan bowl. Two in our group had the Corvina special over ratatouille and I had the bronzino that was expertly fileted and de-boned tableside by our attentive server, Joe. Plates were emptied, stomachs and taste buds were very satisfied. BYO makes this a best bargain in the area. We shall joyfully return.

    I want to say it's a good find, but a lot of people beat me here. The restaurant is a standalone establishment with a big parking lot, and there is plenty of people dining there past 8pm on a Friday night. Luckily the restaurant is big inside (but not bigger on the inside ;)), so we quickly got a table for 2. We decided to go for their homemade pasta. I had the rigatoni with eggplant and ricotta, while the mister had the veal ragout over pappardelle. While both dishes were half orders ("American-size" is only all the more true on the east coast), we were filled to the brim, because there was also complimentary bread and dip. The dip was very delicious so I couldn't stop mopping it up with bread. My rigatoni and the pomodoro sauce in it was absolutely fabulous -- filled with many subtle hints of spices and cooked to perfection. It is a stark difference from Californian Italian cuisine, possibly because of the lack of fresh ingredients here around certain seasons, so they cook their sauces that much better. I quite miss the depth of the pasta sauce they have around the east coast, and I'm glad I didn't miss it on this trip either. The veal ragout came with *chunks* of veal, but were very tenderly cooked. The mister really liked it, and again, the sauce it was cooked in was delicious, but the half order was too huge for him to finish (he has a baby-sized stomach). All-in-all, it's a good Italian place. The service is quite lacking (they just came by to take orders, deliver food, and give us the check), and the atmosphere way too loud and rowdy, but the food is good nonetheless.

    Dined: Wed Jan 28,2015 Our Party of 15 with a reservation was seated at a long table in a comfortable setting. At this table in this charming space were 8 to 10 bottles of wine as IL Granio is a BYO. Deciding on our own wine, at our own cost greatly enhanced the enjoyment of our experience here. The place was totally mobbed on a Wednesday night in frigid weather in the burbs. Most defintely due to the food,service and homey ambiance . We were served efficiently,, promptly and professionally I noticed from his mannerisms and service the waiter was obviously five star trained. He seemed to enjoy his job as he was personable, professional and affable. My meal : Veal Saltimbocca, Tender veal medallions topped with prosciutto and mozzarella. It was fresh, and evocative of a warm summer's evening in Italy. This was coupled with lemon cake -a wonderfully tasteful dessert. I had the opportunity to sample my friend's Bass which was the fish of the day and another friends dish which was the pasta of the day. All were very good What could have made the evening any better? How about a digestif of Limon cello that was complimentarily served to our party! My friends dine here often. I will be back for sure.

    Read a handful of Yelp reviews and thought we would give this a shot. It paid off very well with great food, good service and a very attentive manager. Food was excellent, the huge portion of mussels were fresh and the red sauce had just the right amount of spice and garlic. Polenta with gorgonzola was fantastic, topped with sautéed mushrooms. The whole grilled fish was Branzino, and was filleted table side. The server was very precise! Lemon and olive oil topping was just the right compliment to the fish without being overbearing. Note that the fish is not served with sides, but we opted for some roasted potatoes that were wonderful. Server was a little in the weeds- a group of 28 came in and there seemed to be only one server for that whole table (ours), but the runners and manager stepped in to make sure everything was taken care of. Only issues were a bit of a wait after we were seated, and the noise- which is pretty loud. They would benefit from some acoustic panels on the ceiling. Quaint spot on a quiet back road, easy to find and lots of parking, We'll certainly be back.

    Friendly service is attentive and hostess quickly reassigned our table with hospitality upon request. Bread delicious and is served with white bean dip and tasty olive oil. Entree of Diablo shrimp pasta is perfectly balanced with pecorino and fresh garlic. BYOB of Cote De Rhone excellent pairing. Wine glasses polished and truly appreciated. Only suggestion is for white linen table cloths for dinner. Come enjoy a relaxed dinning experience in a high energy atmosphere. Plan to return for lunch in near future.

    Excellent all around: food, service were superb. Water glasses were kept full, the bread was amazing. Not too many places offer lobster fettucine, and theirs was quite good. I think it was the owner who took our order; I'm always impressed to see management working as hard and as efficiently as the rest of the staff. He was not real warm and friendly -- he reminded me a little of Liam Neeson in Taken, tbh. The only thing I can ding is the noise level -- it's a single room of tables with no barriers.

    Yelp nailed it again!!! This place was incredible. Great ambiance, first class service and every item the six of us ordered was exceptional. I would highly recommend the Branzino. This was a first for me and I cherished every bite. Listen to your server as they made outstanding selections for every course and nailed it. We will be back each trip home for the holidays. If we lived nearby this is the type of place we'd eat at often...very often. ENJOY

    WHAT a WONDERFUL place First of all, it's BYOB so that cuts costs a bit, and allows you to bring your favorite wine... I suggest RED with all this great Italian food! They started us off with bread and a white bean hummus/herbed olive oil dipping plate which I could have eaten all by myself! (They also have butter for you boring folks.) I had the veal ragout which looked like normal stew but I swear up down and sideways it tasted as good as pasta dishes I've had in Italy! My friend had the tricolor shells with pomodoro sauce- a safe but definitely tasty option for picky eaters! The parking lot and dining room was PACKED on a Saturday night so I do recommend reservations. We did not have any and we waited only 20 minutes. We will definitely return.

    This place is always packed to a T, make sure to make reservations well in advance. The seafood is always delicious, you can't go wrong with any of the appetizers, and it's a perfect place to bring a date or eat out with clients! Highly recommended!!!

    Wow wow wow. This place hits all three points: cozy ambiance, attentive service, and authentic Italian dishes (and extra points for being BYOB) When the GPS brought us to this quant house in the middle of a dark road, that's when I knew I found the best hole in the wall. Once we sat down, our waiter came immediately to open our bottle. There are assistant who brought out this amazing white bean dip and olive oil. You know when a place is good when the olive oil they serve is high quality. Without even asking, our bread and dip was refilled. A restaurant only gets better when the owners listen to their customers. At the end of the night, the owner (I'm guessing) had asked us about what we thought of the food and wanted our honesty. I honestly had nothing bad to say except that the ragu had too much salt in it. He immediately went to the kitchen to try it and thanked us for our reply. No wonder all their dishes are out of this world! They are constantly improving. Hands down, best dining experience yet. I will go back to Philly just to eat here again. What a memorable night :)

    This restaurant is a gem! The food is incredible and friendly staff with fast service. I will keep going back for sure. It's a great place to hang out with friends. Don't forget to bring along your favorite alcoholic beverage!

    We threw my sister's surprise Bridal Shower at the restaurant and I cannot say enough great things about it! Everything was absolutely perfect from the food, to the service, to the restaurant itself. Our private party was set for 60 guests in the front room of the restaurant and was secluded and comfortable. I worked mostly with the restaurant manager Greg who was so incredibly helpful and kind. He and his staff did a fantastic job with our group. Not only did they serve the delicious food in a timely manner, but they assisted with the entire party. The staff constantly walked around filling drinks from our personal bar, making the guests feel relaxed and able to enjoy each other's company. Also, Greg went above and beyond by organizing the gift table as more presents were set down and even played a huge role in pulling off the surprise! I have never seen a staff more involved and helpful with a private party and it did not go unnoticed by other guests as well. The three course meal was absolutely delicious, and it being a BYOB is such a plus! Almost every single guest complimented this restaurant choice and said they will certainly be back! Five star rating- definitely check this place out!

    I am hesitant writing this review because we absolutely adore this place and if it ever got to the point that we could not get a table...well, I don't really want to think about that. Husband and I eat here at least twice a month if not more. Reservations are a must on weekends and that said you may still wait, but trust me, it is worth it. Service is always attentive and knowledgeable. It is a BYO so pack accordingly. The food: We usually start with the small order of mussels in red sauce. Light red, garlicky broth with fresh cherry tomatoes. Ask for extra bread; it is very dipworthy. Normally, the husband and I will split an entrée and get beans and greens as a side. The kitchen serves these "family style" which isn't asked for but always appreciated. Our winter staple entrée is the Veal Ragout. Hearty & delicious and enough left for one of us to have for lunch the next day. In the summer, I usually order the Branzino which is deftly fileted tableside. It is a lovely light preparation with olive oil and lemon. We have had dessert (always tiramisu as husband is addicted to it) but most times do not have much room left. Complimentary lemoncello after your meal is a nice touch.
